Kanitz

Historia pułku Kanitz (Tessin 1629/1) sięga roku 1626. Jest to więc jeden z najstarszych regimentów armii Brandenburskiej / Pruskiej. Pułk wchodził w skład korpusu posiłkowego na Węgrzech i walczył przeciw Turkom pod Slankamen i Peterwardein. Podczas wojny o sukcesję hiszpańską wojował na południu Europy - najpierw w Bawarii, pod Höchstädt i Blenheim, a później w składzie pruskiego korpusu posiłkowego we Włoszech - w 1705 pod Cassano, a w 1706 pod Turynem.

 

Infantry regiment Kanitz (Tessin 1629/1) was established in 1626, so it is one of the oldest units of Brandenburgian / Prussian army. Our regiment formed part of auxiliary corps in Hungary and fought against Turks at Slankamen and Peterwardein. During war of the Spanish succession it operated in the southern Europe, first in Bavaria (fought at Höchstädt and Blenheim), then in Italy, taking part in battles of Cassano (1705) and Turin (1706).

Anhalt Dessau

Regiment Anhalt Dessau (Tessin 1665/3) został sformowany w roku 1665 i w początkowym okresie pozostawał na żołdzie Niderlandów. W 1693 roku jego szefem został Leopold, książę Anhalt-Dessau, który do historii przejdzie jako "Stary Dessauer" - twórca potęgi pruskiej piechoty Fryderyka II. Pułk uczestniczył w oblężeniu Budy w 1686, a w hiszpańskiej wojnie sukcesyjnej walczył pod Höchstädt i Blenheim, a później w składzie pruskiego korpusu posiłkowego we Włoszech - w 1705 pod Cassano, a w 1706 pod Turynem.

Regiment Anhalt Dessau (Tessin 1665/3) was formed in 1665 on Nederland's pay. In 1693 it was taken over by Leopold, prince of Anhalt-Dessau, later to become known as "Old Dessauer" - man who laid foundation for future power of Prussian infantry of Frederick the Great. Regiment took part in siege of Ofen in 1686 (war with the Turkish empire). In WSS it fought at Höchstädt and Blenheim, and later as a part of Prussian auxiliary corps in northern Italy - at Cassano (1705) and Turin (1706).

Spośród figurek najbardziej podobają mi się grenadierzy (w tym maszerujący w drugim szeregu sierżant).
What I like most in this stand is it's grenadiers (especially sergeant in second row).

Alt Dohna

Kolejny pułk piechoty pruskiej, malowany przez Pawła. Dzisiaj pułk Alt Dohna (Tessin 1689/4) sformowany w 1672 roku w Kostrzyniu. W latach 1691-05 regiment brał udział w walkach z Turkami na Węgrzech, między innymi w bitwie pod Slankamen. Podczas wojny o sukcesję hiszpańską widzimy go w bitwach pod Oudenaarde i Malplaquet.

Another Prussian infantry regiment painted for me by Paweł. IR Alt Dohna (Tessin 1689/4) was formed in 1672 in Küstrin. From 1691 to 1695 it fought in Hungary against Turks and was engaged in battle of  Slankamen. During WSS we find it in battles of Oudenarde and Malplaquet.

Oczywiście chodzi o podstawkę piechoty z niebieskim sztandarem. Pozostałe pułki widoczne na zdjęciu zaprezentuję w kolejnych postach.

Pisząc jakiś czas temu na temat książek o bitwach pod Zentą i Wschową przyczepiłem się do błędnego, moim zdaniem użycia wyrażenia skwadron, zamiast poprawnego - szwadron, w odniesieniu do pododdziału taktycznego kawalerii. Od tego czasu przeczytałem kilka dość dobrych książek w języku polskim, gdzie ten nieszczęsny skwadron znów się pojawiał i mnie prześladował. 

I oto wczoraj otworzyłem książkę Jana Wimmera "Odsiecz wiedeńska 1683 roku" (wyd. Demart, 2008) i tam, przy opisie armii cesarskiej stoi jak byk: "jednostką taktyczną w kawalerii były dwukompanijne szwadrony".

Kolejny pies w mojej kolekcji. Niech was nie zwiedzie zdjecie powyżej. Tam jest pies, tyle że stoi z tyłu, za żołnierzami.

Wszystko opiera się na jednym zdjęciu, zrobionym po wojnie w Des Moines. Widnieje na nim czarno-biały pies, któremu fotograf dorysował dymek zawierający następujące słowa: Jestem psem, który służył w armii z 28 pułkiem piechoty z Iowa. To wszystko. Nie wiemy nawet jak się wabił. Zdjęcie prawdopodobnie zostało zamówione przez żołnierzy, którzy kupowali odbitki na pamiątkę.
All this begins with this photo, taken in Des Moines Iowa. It shows black and white canine, saying: I am the dog that went through the army with the 28th Iowa Infantry. We don't know it's name. Photo was probably taken when the war ended and copies were bought by regiment's former members.

 

W 1864 roku pułk otrzymał 'veteran jackets' - krótkie kurtki z błękitnym wzorem. Pies opiekuje się rannym żołnierzem. Dzięki temu każda figurka w pułku jest inna. 

In 1864 regiment received short 'veteran jackets' with light blue trim. Dog watches a wounded soldier. Every figure has different pose.

Dittfurth

To pierwsza moja duża jednostka z wojny o niepodległość Stanów Zjednoczonych. Liczy 24 figurki, ustawione na 4 podstawkach. Wyznacza to standard w jakim będę robił heskie pułki do tej wojny. Jednostkę stanowi 2 chorążych, 2 oficerów, 2 doboszy (ustawionych na skrzydłach) oraz 1 podoficer. Reszta to szeregowcy.  
It's my first big unit for AWI. It has 24 figures on 4 stands. It sets standards for my future Hessian units. It consists of 2 officers, 2 standard bearers, 2 drummers (posted on wings) and one sergeant. The rest are privates.

Regiment fizylierów von Dittfurth przybył do Ameryki w 1776 roku, z pierwszym kontyngentem wojsk heskich. Jako część brygady generała majora von Stirn brał udział w bitwie na Long Island. Potem regiment służył w garnizonie Newport. W 1780 roku brał on udział w oblężenie Charlestonu i po zdobyciu miasta wszedł w skład jego załogi, w której to roli zastał go koniec wojny.

Fusilier Regiment von Ditfurth arrived with the first contingent of Hessians in 1776. As a part of Major General von Stirn's Brigade it took part in the Battle of Long Island. Later regiment served in garrison of Newport. In 1780 it participated in siege on Charleston and became part of city garrison until the end of the war.

Większość figurek stanowią hescy fizylierzy (paczki AWG8 i AWG10), ale aby mieć więcej sylwetek, przerobiłem też kilku grenadierów Ralla (AWG7). All figures by Pendraken. Very easy to paint. Colours made by me. Majority of figures are from Hessian fusiliers packs (AWG8 and AWG10) but I also converted some Rall grenadiers (AWG7) to obtain more poses.

Western fellows

Starting my ACW wargaming adventure I learned that Paweł, my wargaming pal has already painted the prettiest Union regiments from the Army of Potomac. Then I decided to do exclusively these regiments that fought in the Western Theather of war. Later, reading books about the war I realised that there was distinct difference between western and eastern soldiers of Federal army.
  
In his excellent book "This Terrible Sound: The Battle of Chickamauga", Peter Cozzens recals the memories of sergeant of the 4th Texas Infantry, Joseph Polley, whose brigade of veteran Texans arrived from Virginia on the eve of Chickamauga battle to reinforce confederate Army of Tennesee.  As Poley and his comrades began their advance through the woods of Chickamauga passing some wounded soldiers of Army of Tennessee they heared those taunting words:
“them fellers out thar you ar goin’ up again, ain’t none of them blue bellied, white-livered Yanks an’ sassidge-eatin’ forrin hirelins’ you have in Virginny that’ll run quick at the snap of a cap - they are Western fellers, an’ they’ll mighty quick give you a bellyful of fightin.”

So here they are - western fellows.
