Clinch Rifles

 

Piąty pułk z Georgii nosił przydomek "Pound Cake Regiment" [ pound cake ] gdyż każda z jego kompanii miała inny mundur. Kompanię A tworzyli członkowie milicji "Clinch Rifles" z Augusty. To ich sztandar znajduje się na podstawce.  Regiment poniósł 37% strat w pod Murfreesboro, a wśród zabitych znalazł się pułkownik William Black. W tej bitwie Georgijczycy stracili też sztandar. W następnym krwawym starciu z federalnymi - nad potokiem Chickamauga pułk stracił kolejne 55% stanu. W grudniu 1863 roku jednostka liczyła tylko 161 ludzi.

The 5th Georgia Volunteers was nicknamed "Pound Cake Regiment", because no two companies were dressed alike. Militiamen of "Clinch Rifles" from Augusta formed company A. Their flag can be seen on the stand. Regiment lost 37% casualties in the Battle of Murfreesboro, with Colonel William Black among the dead. Regimental flag was also lost in this battle. Next bloody encounter with Federal Army - the Battle of Chickamauga cost 5th Georgia another 55% casualties. In December of 1863 the regiment numbered only 161 men.
