Perryville wargame (1)

Finally we gathered to play our first full scale ACW game - Perryville.
So far it's noon and Confederates crossed the Chaplin river, and come within range of Federal artillery (yes, Polk ordered general offensive at 8 a.m., without waiting for Bragg).
I don't think I'll manage to do a proper ARR so please enjoy those few snapshots.

General Lee

No, it's not about THIS general Lee. Nor about THAT general Lee, his father ...
It's about completely different Lee - major general Charles Lee, rather unfortunate Patriot commander in AWI.

Charles Lee, an 18th century soldier of fortune (served with British, Polish, Portuguese and Russian armies) entered continental service in 1775.  He was made second in command, only to general Washington (still low, given his ambitions), commanded a division in New York 1776 campaign and was captured by the British light dragoons on December 13th 1776 at Baskingridge in New Jersey. Held in captivity for more than a year, he was finally exchanged in 1778, but given command of Continental Army vanguard, he failed at the battle of Monmouth, and was subsequently dismissed and courtmartialled. 
Lee was very fond of dogs, and was seldom seen without one. The most famous of them was certain pomeranian, named Spado (or Spada).  His name entered history simply because he has gone missing and following advert appeared in the Virginia Gazette in March 7th 1777:

Twenty Dollars Reward

LOST or STOLEN, a very remarkable black shaggy dog of the Pomerania breed, called SPADO. He belongs to our brave but unfortunate general LEE, and was seen in the possession of a person who called himself JOSEPH BLOCK, at Wright’s Ferry, on Susquehannah, about the 25th of December last. It is supposed that BLOCK, who pretended to have undertaken to carry him to Berkeley County, Virginia, has parted with him for a trifling consideration, or lost him on the road. Whoever gives information where the said dog may be had, or will bring him to the subscriber in Williamsburg, shall receive the above reward, and no questions asked.

I decided to make command stand with general Lee. As the divisional commander stand requires two figures I added a captain (yellow cockade) od 12th Continental regiment - an unit that remainded under Lee's command in late 1776.

The fate of Spado is unknown.

AWI guns comparison

Finally I finished the comparison of AWI guns. All dimensions are in [mm] and are given in reference to Pendraken's 10mm AWI line (roughly 1:142 scale). If you print the image on A4 sheet, you would probably get right dimensions.

Help needed

Currently I'm working on a comparison sheet showing most common AWI guns. I've managed to do French ones and British 3-pdrs. Now the time has come to do British 6-pdr, 12-pdr and 5,5" howitzer.
Unfortunatelly, I can't find any decent scale drawings of these guns, although I know the dimensions of barrels and carriages. If anybody can help me in this matter, please contact me - in my Google profile one can find my e-mail adress.

Irlandzkie sztandary (w secesyjnej) / Irish colours (ACW)

W najbliższych postach zaprezentuję kilka sztandarów irlandzkich, używanych podczas wojny secesyjnej. Większość figurek pochodzi z kolekcji Pawła, który bardzo lubi Irlandzkich żołnierzy. Na początek, najsłynniejsze jednostki irlandzkie tej wojny - pułki brygady irlandzkiej Meaghera.

In subsequent posts I will present some colours used by Irish troops in American Civil War. Majority of figures were painted by Paweł, who's inclinations to Irish troops is well known. 

First - the most famous of Irish units, Irish Brigade of gen. Meagher.

63rd New York

Z lewej 63 pułk z Nowego Jorku wraz z typowym sztandarem używanym w brygadzie. W pewnym momencie wszystkie pułki miały takie właśnie sztandary.

69th New York

Po prawej 69 regiment z Nowego Jorku, ze swoim oryginalnym sztandarem, tzw. "Prince of Wales Flag" wręczonym im na pamiątkę wydarzeń z 1860 roku, gdy regiment - należący wówczas do gwardii stanowej - odmówił wzięcia udziału w paradzie honorującej księcia Walii, wizytującego miasto.

On the right 69th New York regiment with their unique pattern flag, "Prince of Wales Flag", commemorating the occassion in 1860 when regiment - then of state militia, refused to parade in honor of Prince of Wales, visiting New York. 

88th New York

Kolejna podstawka przedstawia 88 pułk z Nowego Jorku, wraz nową wersją sztandaru, przekazaną pułkom brygady po bitwie pod Fredericksburgiem, w celu zastąpienia zniszczonych sztandarów pierwszego modelu.

Next stand shows 88th New York regiment carrying second model of brigade flags, issued to regiments after battle of Fredericksburg, as a replacement of tattered original colours. 

  

28th Massachusetts

Na koniec 28 pułk z Massachusetts, wraz z oryginalnym sztandarem, używanym zanim regiment dołączył do brygady irlandzkiej.

Finally 28th Massachusetts volunteers with their original flag issued before regiment joined Irish Brigade.
